Types

(फोटो: जोषिता रावत)

Starting where Alok left his posting.

‘Work place Bachhan’ tends to follow his heart and that is true for half this world, I for myself tend to this calling more or just say it this way I have seen my first reaction within to a objects/things is most of the time judicious for me.
But than this world is inhabited by people who are totally diverse in their types and yet everyone is successful as human being as they tend to exhibit/and enhance traits which are as different and elaborate .
MBTI or Myers briggs type indicator is tools of modern science which almost accurately predicts your type.According to these ladies there are essentially 16 types which hover between following preferences

· Extraversion or Introversion
· Sensing or intuition
· Thinking or feeling
· Judging or perceiving

These are natural choices of people but its not necessary you tend to follow it verbatim since your reactions will always be guided by a situation,30% + 30% of people tend to fall between ISTJ+ ESTJ(Introverted sensing with extraverted thinking +Extraverted thinking with introverted sensing).
I for myself fall in ISFJ(Introverted sensing with extraverted feeling).

Its not a rocket science to realize having car/big bungalow/foreign jaunts is not a measure of success similarly having perfect health /regimented life/pure food /living long is not a measure of success or owning a island/pad in mumbai/farmhouse in Himanchal /small hut in purest of nature is not a measure of success..your own criterion works for you.

Winds of Destiny

As I was growing up, I was heavily influenced by the western culture. As my elders in the family talked about god, religion, and pre-written destiny, I laughed and dismissed it all. I still don't believe in pre-written destiny of course. But over the last decade, I have realized how little of control we have over our own life. True, there are some people who can evaluate the current situation better than others and take good decisions, but yet even they are not spared by the laws of the universe. I firmly believe that events in his universe are not random, but what’s going to happen next is dependent on what has happened till this moment. Now, even the person with the ability to take the best decisions can’t possibly have access to all the events and fathom the relationships between them all to figure out for sure what's going to happen and what’s the best course of action.

I specifically wanted to talk about this guy whom I referred to as workplace Bachchan three months ago, the tall and lanky fellow who swept us away with his magnetic personality and who was fired by the then project manager. We pitied Bachchan at that time, and when he bent his head to take a bite at his sandwich, we labeled it as a symbol of embarrassment. But, if hindsight is 20-20, foresight can surely be 0-0 or however poor vision is expressed.

Everybody thought that the new product was the future of the company, and that eventually the old product would die its natural death. The best course of action, in this case, would be to switch to the new product as soon as possible. In fact, I have often seen "smart" people licking their bosses' a**es to move into the new team before it got too crowded. But our Bachchan was a man of heart. Simply because he was not happy the way the project was being handler, he happily retreated back to the old project instead of slogging in his existing situation. No pundit or smarty pant would call it a good move. In fact, for several weeks we thought of his actions as totally irrational.

Last December though, the winds of destiny took over the company -- the same winds that brought the Wall Street bulls on their knees and showed the world what can happen if greed and ambition throw things out of balance. The company suffered major setback from their client resulting in an inevitable action -- layoff. Even though the layoff affected the entire company, it affected the new product in a huge way. While Bachchan was safe in hid old cocoon, the same PM that fired Bachchan, earlier that year, was asked to pack his bags. Besides that, the future of the entire effort around the new product looked in trouble. Great amount of money had been spent already on it, and yet it was nowhere close to being ready for production use. And the question still remained whether to still continue developing it or hold it up until company did better financially. In January more people were laid off while Bachchan continued eating his sandwich quietly at the kitchen bar.

Not that Bachchan anticipated this. He just followed his heart and did what he thought was right, and yet he emerged as the winner in the end. The lesson to be learnt, I interpret anyways, is to not try and control your life way too much. You never know what God's big plan is. Again, a balance needs to be struck between planning-and-acting and surrendering to God. The elders back in India always said 'jo hota hai ache ke liye hi hota hai' (whatever happens happens for good). We need to remember that, especially, in these tough economic times

" Selamat Detang"

It seems like thay are ever prepared for tourists, officials, professionals..Malaysia is not a melting pot ,but it is truly Asia.Millions come inspite of fact that they hardly have anything to show.KLIA is recognised best airport for last three years and it does look like that.

Our coblogger and dear friend ' Pintoo' has atleast been recognised in Malay, After Sharukh getting ' Datuk' in Malaysia this again is a step towards friendship.

Things certainly are common even if they get confused while translating ..look the Mumbai ' Sandaas' got converted into 'Tandas'.

Yesteryear comedian ' Tuntun' also gets a mention.

Most common sign anywhere in Malaysia....you don't like it you better get out.Malays are like that very aggressive,Chinese/Indians are moderate professional influence on society.

" Gong Xi Fa Cai!" With Chinese year starting monday.Year of bull is celebrated in style.

Big Tamilian population means you get to have ' Tosai' 'Capati'.. and get much needed respite from palm oil fried chicken although Malysia is a nation with restrained food habits which are quite akin to Indians.Rarely you get to excesses like in other parts of SEA of frogs/crabs/lizards..they are more of beef/poultry type.

That's a symbol of pride for them ..although its your usual office block.

Rapid Antivirus, Vundo, and others

It was so sudden, it took me by surprise. I was only trying to play some songs online when it hit my system and paralyzed it and me, alike, for one whole day. The name of the rogue is Rapid Antivirus. It all started when the site tried to play the music using my local software that tried to downloaded a video codec and, also, downloaded some trojans along with. All of a sudden windows starting popping up all over, reporting system infection and asking to run a virus scan. The rogue almost took over the windows system. It turned off the security features of windows automatically, namely the firewall and my antivirus system, leaving the system in a totally vulnerable state. At the same time, it installed itself as an application without me even knowing and showed itself in the system tray with exactly the same icon that the windows secrity systedm has making it look really authentic. The icon kept popping up very authentic looking messages that the system is infected, excessive email traffic detected, blah, blah, blah, all looking very authetic. After all you trust an antivirus software like your big brother or may be even more. Now, typically, I am very quick with everything on my computer, but during all this action, I was able to keep my patience and didn't follow the instructions issued by the malware. Suddenly, the dreadful blue screen showed up, kind of what you see when there is system crash because of memory issues. The screen reported that my sytem was infected with certain spyware. Following the blue screen, an exact imitation of the windows XP startup screen appeared reporting at the bottom that an unregistered version of Rapid Antivirud 2.7 is detected and that the windows recommends activating the virus system. I disabled the internet connection, and then googled on Rapid Antivirus. Bingo! there it was. An antivirus program that fakes threatning messages forcing you to use Rapid antivirus to scan uyour system, reporting fake spyware/viruses and then making you buy a registered version to remove the worms found. Eventually several scans later, using my antivirus software, I was able to remove the culprit albeit not without wasting a couple of hours.

As soon as I relaxed and turned back on my internet connection, however, I noticed somebody disabling my antivirus system again, and I realized that I may have relaxed a little bit too early. Antivirus continued reporting, 'cleaned', all the trojans
found but as soon as I rebooted and rescanned they came back on board. One of the stickiest trojans was the trojan Vundo also known as Virtumonde. According to http://www.wikihow.com/Delete-Virtumonde,

"Virtumonde is a high risk adware infection. It has a huge impact on system performance and can corrupt data. It can be found on all Windows systems down to Windows 95. Adware. VirtuMonde is an adware program that downloads and displays popup advertisements for companies commercial gains. It blocks access to the Windows Update, changes the structure of Windows Explorer and modifies registry. It can be executed on your machine by means of installing software with a secret adware."

After continuous attempts, my antivirus just couldnt get rid of vundo. Finally, I decided to download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware software. Lots of people on various forums talked about it and said good things. When I ran a scan using this guy on the this time, vundo was totally exposed. Where antivirus only reported 1 item infected, Malwarebytes reported 35 including files, folder, and registry entries, etc. It asked for one last reboot, and the computer came out clear as a person possessed with spirits comes out of Ganges after a sacred dip. Malwarebytes got rid of Vundo through and through.

The vundo was now gone, but my system wasn't trojan free yet. Malwarebytes kept reporting one more trojan seneka and even after repeated removals, it kept reporting the same one. svchost kept failing with the following message - general host process for win32 process has encountered a problem ....... To reboot the system, I had to hard shut it down, and then wait for a few minutes before restarting it. On top of that, I was not able to turn on my wireless internet. Clearly, the system was still in a hijacked state.

Eventually, I updated Malwarebytes to the latest version, and ran the scan again, and lo Vundo was back. It actually never left. Only thing was Malwarebytes' older version was unable to detect it. I deleted the dirty entries again and there it was my system was out of the hands of the band of terrorists. It restarted like a champ, and all the errors were gone.

The lesson that I learnt from this is that it's very important to create a restore point, periodically, on your system. This way if you find yourself in a infectious state (I mean your machine), you can roll back to the last known point of integrity of your system. One good point about system restore is that it doesnot touch your personal files like word docs, emails, and photos. It only target system files and installed software. So if you run a system restore, your current changes of personal types won't be affected. Also, it's very important not to visit websites you don't trust and that are little known, esp if it's on a system you can't risk getting hijacked. On top of these, it's very important to run antivirus and antimalware software periodically otherwise you might expose your personal information to the rogues. Happy surfing!!

' English ' ...As she is spoken

They may be most enterprenurial, most travelled or got exposed to world when my ancestors still thought start of forest was end of world…..alas Gujraatis still know that much English that they learned way back in 18th century.

Sample this restaurant owner in Somnath who thinks all vegetarians are just as good as vegetables or maybe he thought Mayank with his latest mid riff tyres was a potato gone black.

know this sign board put up by authorities who I think studied phonetics more deeply in childhood and got this as their version.

Or this Volvo bus owner who again confuses ciggratte smoking with some royal habit.

It's Shahrukh again !!

I have been denouncing Shahrukh Khan for decades now. In every desi party, after having a couple of drinks, a heated discussion always happens regarding the Khans, who is better and how their recent movies are. I have always made sure I say a few words about his inability to act. Yet, inside, I could never deny the charms of the king of bollywood. In fact I have been secretly enjoying him since his Fauji days. It was impression at first sight. His natural skills at flirting & romancing became quiet evident in that show 20 something years ago. Therefore, I looked forward to his new movie as well.

With RNBDJ, he returns in partnership with the man who made him immortal with his romance classic, DDLJ (your truly have seen that one 5 times in theater himself). First and foremost, the DDLJ memories need to be put aside before you start watching this one. It's nowhere close to the debut direction from Aditya Chopra. The movie should rather be watched keeping Mohabbatein in mind. The latter even though a financial success was way too much melodrama and as in desi slang we would say 'chatu' movie.

Shahrukh Khan plays two different types of roles in this one. One is his trademark flirty, witty type character that entertains as usual even though some might say a little 'chatu', and the other is a 9-5 office goer who sets his hair in place with a comb, wears heavy glasses and walks timidly. Both are stark contrast and makes it hard for audience to believe it's realistically possible for one person to be dual pseronailities like that. The subdued Shahrukh in his babu role is very impressive and makes me loosen up my stace on his acting skills somewhat. The peppy characted on the other hand was a bit more complex and should have a mix of both personalities, but it was rather totally separated out from his real personality as if it's a double role. On the second thought, it was a formula movie, so that's allowed, I guess.

The leading lady, Anushka acts impressively, as well, and fits in the character without any overacting. In fact in one sequence where she gets mad at one of the fellow dancers and drives a bike at the speed of 120 to chase her down in revenge, she looks really natural where other biggy heroins of Khan would have overacted. The story is plain and predictable, except for the end that could have been the high point of the movie but lacked a proper built up and release, I thought.

The songs, in my opinion, were mostly just ok and lacked melody, esp compared to both DDLJ and Mohabbatein, even though 'hole hole' number had become somewhat likeable because of it being used for the marketing campaign of the movie. The one that I enjoyed watching and hearing though is 'Dance pay Chance.' It's nicely choreographed and Shahrukh beats the girl at dancing on this one. Overall, a good entertainer and worth watching, but if you miss it for some reason, that's nothing to be sorry about, either, unless you are hardcore Shahrukh fan.
